If you’re overwhelmed by all the skincare advice out there and wondering what actually works for keeping your feet healthy during the summer, you’re not alone. One of the most common questions I get is: “What should I be using on my feet, and in what order?” That confusion leads to patchy routines, ineffective results, and feet that stay dry, cracked, or vulnerable to infection.

As a board-certified physician with over 35 years of experience, I’ve created this straightforward foot skincare routine to help you protect, nourish, and refresh your feet all summer long.
The 6-Step Foot Skincare Routine You Can Actually Stick To
1. Moisturizer
Start with a clean base. I recommend a high-quality, multipurpose moisturizer like Necessaire. It’s vegan, safe, and contains hyaluronic acid (to slough off dead skin), niacinamide (to brighten), and ceramides (to strengthen and hydrate). A small amount goes a long way—just a drop per foot.
2. Sunscreen (UVA + UVB Protection)
Yes, your feet need SPF too—especially in sandals or at the beach. UVA rays break down collagen and increase cancer risk, while UVB rays cause pigmentation and wrinkles. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with both.
3. Retinoids or Exfoliating Moisturizer
If you already have retinoids at home (like prescription Retin-A), you can use them in small amounts to increase skin turnover and collagen production. But for most people, a product like AmLactin KP Bumps is perfect—it exfoliates while moisturizing, helping smooth rough skin and fade discoloration.
4. Vitamin C Serum
This powerful antioxidant lightens skin, fights free radicals, and adds another layer of anti-aging protection. Apply after moisturizing or before sunscreen for maximum impact.
5. Peptides
If you’re using a product with ceramides (like Necessaire), you’re already getting the benefits of peptides. But if you want an added collagen-boosting layer, peptide serums can help protect and strengthen your skin’s barrier.
6. Powder to Keep Feet Dry
Summer means sweat, and sweat means fungus. My go-to is Gold Bond Medicated Powder or their clear spray version. It contains menthol to keep feet cool and dry and helps prevent athlete’s foot and fungal nails. Use 2–3 times daily, especially if you wear socks or closed shoes.
Let Your Feet Shine This Summer
